Using AAC at Home & Community: Supporting Communication Every Day OPWDD-Aligned Family Training

Led by a certified special education teacher, this training helps families learn practical strategies for using high-tech Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) across home and community environments. Families will gain hands-on knowledge to support their child’s communication in meaningful, everyday routines.

Training Focus Areas

  • Building family skills to support functional communication across natural environments

  • Embedding AAC into daily routines such as meals, play, community outings, and family activities

  • Modeling communication to increase expressive language and participation

  • Supporting generalization of communication skills between home, school, and community settings

  • Increasing family confidence in navigating and supporting AAC devices
